In the light of the mounting excitement for this event, you can get to know more about one of the musicians, the formidable Albie van Schalkwyk, right here:
Albie van Schalkwyk has established himself as performer in a number of fields. One of the leading chamber musicians and vocal accompanists in South Africa, he has performed as soloist with SA orchestras, performed solo recitals, given master classes for singers and accompanists, worked as a music producer for the SABC, and arranged music for various combinations. He was appointed Associate Professor in Piano and Chamber Music at the College of Music, University of Cape Town, in 2009.
After completing his B.Mus. degree at the University of Cape Town he spent five years in London. During this period he won the UNISA Overseas Scholarship as well as first prize in the SABC Music Prize Piano Competition. Upon his return to SA he became the regular partner of many South African singers and instrumentalists, as well as overseas artists.
His partnership with Austrian cellist Heidi Litschauer has produced two major tours through South Africa as well as annual visits to Austria where he is invited to play concerts and work as repertoire at the summer school of the International Neuberg Kulturtage since 1988. He was on the staff of this summer school from 1988-2011, and has taught chamber music at the Franschhoek Chamber Music Workshops and at the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival.
His interest in vocal music and the art song in particular has led to the formation in 1994 of The Songmakers’ Guild, a Cape Town society which provides a regular platform to performers in the field of the art song. He spent his 2002/3 sabbatical working as repertoire for the Vocal Department of the Mozarteum Music University in Salzburg, Austria.
He has been a regular panel member of several South African competitions, including the Chamber Music Competition in Stellenbosch, the UNISA National Piano Competition, and the SAMRO National Singing Competition. He was the 2009 winner of the Huberte Rupert Prize, awarded by the SA Academy of Arts and Sciences to him for his contribution to ensemble playing and teaching over the past 30 years. He completed his Ph.D. in music at the University of the Free State in May 2012.

After the excitement (and maybe exhaustion) of the Napier Half-Marathon and the MTB Race and after shopping at all the great stalletjies, pop along to the Napier Hotel for the Competition?
You can enter – or you can be an encouraging spectator! There’ll be music and fun and judging will be at 16h30 with a great PRIZE-GIVING at 17h30 …
OR … you could just go to watch the Springboks vs Wales on the big-screen TV’s!
Don’t miss out as this will be last one in the Napier/Bredasdorp area for this year! And for those who did go to the concerts, this will be even more enjoyable than you previously experienced – fun, with lots of great well-loved music to entertain you.
For those interested in ‘stats’ here are a few we’re quite proud of … our viewing stats on our YouTube channel for the last week!
It’s interesting to note what content people are watching – still the most popular videos are the two we have done for Vloedbos Holiday Farm (only 30km from Napier) having been viewed a total of 186 times.
Cowan Properties virtual tours are also popular on an ongoing basis – with three of their properties featuring in the top 10 list!
As always, XtremePro videos on their self-defense products are popular, as are the short videos of the Dorf Krug restaurant in Hermanus (Bavarian & German cuisine) and Mrs Robinson’s at the Red Windmill.
… and then there is the short piece on Struisbaai made over a year ago … maybe we need some more of those!
