Nissan SA – How amazingly stupid!

nissanNissan South Africa have sent out letter to Nissan Lavina owners recalling a number of models because of a potentially faulty airbag …. the letter to the clients do not outline any course of action the client is meant to take, nor who to contact, in short they say ABOLUTELY NOTHING other than they are recalling the model.

It is up to the client to take all the initiative and try to find out how serious the matter is, who to contact, what to do etc …. after numerous, non-returned phone calls to the nearest dealership (in Hermanus) the client was told that the driver’s side airbag has to be replaced in all the models ….. BUT (wait for it) the factory has no stock! Maybe the part will be available in the new year … we will phone you! (better not hold your breath!)

Annie Sloan Chalk Paints in Hermanus – also Workshops!

Hello!   to everyone who came into The Plough Shed and were interested in Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and Workshops

Click to view the ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT COLOUR CHART (slightly distressed looking) – Annie Sloan paint chart.

Marked on it are the colours we will have in stock  by Wednesday 15th May (it also indicates when we expect future stock to arrive). Every two weeks we’ll receive more colours until we have the full range.

ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT is an international product but there has been a process of waiting for the paints to be matched and manufactured in S.A. and we should have two thirds of the colours by the end of the month and the rest within the following 4 – 6 weeks.

These products are really fantastic to work with and really worth waiting for.

From Saturday 17th May,  I will be giving ‘Introduction to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint’ workshops every Saturday and Wednesday mornings 9.00 am – 12.30 pm.

Courses will be conducted in English.  If the group consists of 6 or more people, I will have a wonderful Afrikaans speaking woman, experienced in paint effects, who will be helping with the workshop.

Please call to book if you’re interested – I take maximum 10 people per workshop (with two instructors).

The shop will be closed for business on the two days leading up to the opening of Paint Sales – Carole will be in Durban at the Annie Sloan HQ – but The Plough Shed will be open again from Wednesday 17th from 9.00 am!

Looking to get rid of some old “stuff” … ?

The Plough Shed exteriorI received this message …I need to keep adding to my shop to offer an interesting retail experience to shoppers … so, I need to find ….. (anyone out there in the Overberg who has any of the following stuff that I can buy from them, that I can clean up or paint for the shop. I need …

· OLD metal / wooden garden equipment eg. wheelbarrows, watering cans, tin buckets, spades etc

· OLD farming implements eg. hoe/hay fork/sickle/plough type implements

· INTERIOR DECORATING books featuring Shabby Chic paint techniques eg. French – Provence, Italian, Portugese, Spanish, Latin American, Greek, Cuban, etc

· OLD straw hats of all shapes and sizes

· Weathervanes

· Gardening trugs (wooden ‘basket/tray’ with handle for collecting flowers, carrying garden tools)

· Bird houses

· OLD chairs and stools

· Little boxes with interesting latches

· OLD drawer and door handles

· OLD shower heads and taps

· OLD wooden and tin toys that I can clean & paint up

· OLD glass jars & vases

· OLD picture frames

· Wicker baskets, picnic baskets,

· OLD rusty signs

· Anything FUNNY! Anything that will make someone smile or laugh – a book, sign, fridge magnet etc – I have a section for this

I would like to get these from householders, not shops, as I’m going to paint them and refurbish before offering them to customers.

(If someone has a constant supply of objects, I am prepared to take some things on consignment)

I am going to be putting out the message and asking people to post photos with prices and then perhaps every 2 weeks or so I can drive around the Overberg, buy & collect directly from them.”

Our “YouTube” stats for the last week

You Tube stats 15 AprilFor those interested in ‘stats’ here are a few we’re quite proud of … our viewing stats on our YouTube channel for the last week!

It’s interesting to note what content people are watching – still the most popular videos are the two we have done for Vloedbos Holiday Farm (only 30km from Napier) having been viewed a total of 186 times.

Cowan Properties virtual tours are also popular on an ongoing basis – with three of their properties featuring in the top 10 list!

As always, XtremePro videos on their self-defense products are popular, as are the short videos of the Dorf Krug restaurant in Hermanus (Bavarian & German cuisine) and Mrs Robinson’s at the Red Windmill.

The Henhouse in Napier has also been getting attention – people looking for Easter Weekend accommodation, no doubt!

… and then there is the short piece on Struisbaai made over a year ago … maybe we need some more of those!

Not a boring week’s activities …

IMAG4656_1Had a great time at the Red Windmill chatting over a pot of rooibos … what struck me was how peaceful this is as a place to grab some “me time” to sit and relax, looking over the fields and enjoying the lack of hustle and bustle! Sure, you can hear the cars and the trucks go by, but the noise from them is so reduced it renders them an unassuming background noise. It was interesting to see a regular there – a chap from Struisbaai who comes there every week to enjoy a breakfast and he uses that time to reflect on his week past and what is to come! And then the ladies arrived – a couple of sisters who were driving around with their mother just looking for something different and delicious. They found it!

theoverberg.com accompanied Keith Murray (Keith Imaging) to the bright lights to listen to a talk given by Tamra Capstick-Dale  (MD of PR firm Corporate Image) … how interesting and refreshing to listen to someone knowledgeable give a different perspective on business matters. Excellent talk, great company and good food – hosted by SAFREA (South African Freelancers Association).

But before the meeting we got caught in rush hour traffic, took some photos at Mouille Point, had a snack at a roadside bistro, wandered around the V & A Waterfront and wondered how so many of the shops stay in business when they ask exorbitant prices for their goods and don’t seem to have any customers – but that’s just a “country bumpkin’s” perspective (R2000.00 for a gents shirt, maybe because it has a nice collar?). We also parked outside the building I used to have an office in, many moons ago … in a way it seems like yesterday!

The “country mice” headed back to Hermanus and after a pleasant breakfast on Thursday met with a dynamic person who is pushing the Overberg to overseas firms as THE PLACE to visit to make their films and adverts – after all, we have the sea, the mountains, the winelands, the caves, the extreme sports, the hotels, the restaurants, the open spaces, the fantastic people, the great cooks and a lot less traffic! (Watch this space for more on this one!)
